#7 - Making it up as you go along – part 7
More aluminium bodywork and problem solving: Shaping, joining, welding and finishing.
#6 - Steering column problem
Adding joints to a steering column.
I’m just after a little advice about modifying a steering column:
Photo 1 is my solid steering column in its current state. Not great for a front end crash.
Photo 2 is my solution. A simple modern steering joint fixed at the steering box end, going to a 45 degree angle and onto the original steering column in a raised position (an extra support for the original column will go around the radiator position).
My question is: do you think this is an acceptable solution?
Should the angles be changed or maybe the joint moved further away from the steering box?
Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
#5 - Joining aluminium panels
Minor update on my 1950s style Italian sports car project. I’ve removed the wooden buck and been out for a quick spin to check clearances.
All seems fine so far.
Keep up the good work everyone!
#4 - Shaping aluminium
1950s style Lancia sports car.
Nearly completed the aluminum rear end.
Hope it doesn’t look too big.
#3 - Bending aluminium sheet
Bending aluminium sheet using an english wheel and a wooden buck as a pattern. Next episode is shaping aluminium using an english wheel and basic hand tools.
#2 - Design and build a wooden buck
Design and build an old school aluminium bodied sports car from scratch. This episode concentrates on designing and building a simple wooden buck.
